Sauvie Island
Sauvie Island is Portland’s rural haven inhabited by only 1,300 residents. Located at the junction of the Columbia River to the east, Willamette River to the south and Multnomah Channel to the west, the island’s northern half is a wildlife refuge and the southern half is predominantly rural farmland with small residential enclaves.
Life on the island is tranquil and low key with country roads suitable for walking and cycling. Throughout the seasons you will see birders, kayakers, cyclists, fruit and flower stands, outdoor concerts, paddle boarders, fall harvest festivals, kite surfing, boating and, of course, relaxing on any of the five public beaches.
